    3D exploded pie-chart on the loose!

    Isn't it good to know that, even when I'm on my holidays (driving from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon), I'm on the look-out for data visualisation?

    The Hoover Dam bridges the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, and was the main route between Flagstaff and Las Vegas until October this year, when a by-pass bridge was opened.  The bridge gives a great view of the canyon and dam, but sadly the design excellence demonstrated by the dam was't mirrored in the data visualisation of the bridge's funding.

    On the bright side, it's low on data ink and doesn't have the crazy colours often found in these things. Definitely, the strangest location yet for a dataviz fail!

    Yes, points for being low on data ink and crazy colours. Points taken away, however, for its permanence (likely to outlast us all). Where is Prof Tufte when you need him?

    mmm permanence. Could be used (amongst other things) by future generations to prove how stupid we were.
